Allison + Mark >>> wedding preview May 15, 2012 2 Comments

Saturday, May 5, 2012 - Lansing and Ann Arbor - MI
Mark and Allison are recent graduates of Michigan State University. On Friday, May 4 they graduated with their Ph.Ds.  They invited their families to be part of such a major life event.  Their family came in from all over the country…Mark’s family from all over the east coast, Allison’s from, well, all over.  At the dinner that followed, they passed out their Save the Dates for the wedding they were planning. The next day. Surprise!
I met them at the gardens of MSU to start with family pictures that day. So, side story…originally they were going to go under the guise of having family pictures taken together that afternoon. Afterward, Allison was going to change into her dress, and then Surprise! Wedding! But plans change and it worked better to surprise the families the night prior.  But we stuck with the original plan of pictures prior.  All family members were asked to where black and white, which was the color theme of their day (and done oh so well!) And afterward, Allison and her sister and her friends helped her slip into her wedding dress.  We all met back in the gardens for the most perfect, intimate ceremony.  Their pup also in tow and in attendance.  No wedding party. No seats. Just a ceremony surrounded in love.  Officiated by one of their beloved professors.
The reception was held in Ann Arbor at Zingerman’s Roadhouse (also known as my new favorite Ann Arbor restaurant).  Again, perfectly intimate and perfectly them. Great food, wine and beer for all.  Allison and Mark’s pretty cake done by A Piece O’ Cake.
Needless to say, I enjoyed this day immensely. I adore this couple and wish them nothing but love and happiness as they begin their married life together.

Rachele + Matt >>> wedding preview May 7, 2012 2 Comments

Saturday, April 28, 2012 - New Marlborough, MA - Gedney Farm
There is something so sweet and so romantic about a wedding in New England. Rachele and Matt, both residents of New Jersey, chose this perfect location for their nuptials at the end of last month and asked me to be a part of their day. Honestly, I couldn’t imagine not being a part of it! This day had a lot of love and a lot of heart.  Plus I kind of adore these two!
The day also had some tears. Rachele and her sisters lost their dad a few years back and as you can imagine, not having him physically there brought up a lot of emotion for these girls and their mom.  But while he may not have been there physically, his presence was sincerely felt throughout the day.  In fact during the ceremony, the light fell in such a way it was hard not to imagine he was there in the room looking down. The words that were exchanged and the love between Rachele and Matt was evidence to all who were witness.
A huge thanks to my dear friend and fellow photog Kelly Braman for flying out with me and helping me document the day. We make a great team!
Rachele and Matt - I am wishing you decades of happiness and love. And I can’t wait to hear about your African adventures for your honeymoon!

Sarah+Todd >>> wedding preview March 29, 2012 5 Comments

The first wedding of the season and what a way to begin! Sarah and Todd reside in Chicago and planned their nuptials in my new favorite town of Three Oaks, MI (seriously…looking for a fun destination this summer? Eclectic shops, theaters and an honest-to-goodness whiskey distillery…all a few minutes from Lake Michigan. It’s fantastic). They were married in Vickers Theatre, ate and partied the night away at the Acorn Theater. Dramatic right?

I truly can’t tell you how in awe I was with Jamie of Heyday Event Lab. This little mastermind orchestrated one of the most clever and cool receptions I’ve been a part of.  Old theater, old movie flickering on the stage, cool decor galore…I could go on and on. She was also responsible for the floral, coordinating and everything else behind the scenes that made this day a flawless one.  Delish desserts were done by baker-extraordinaire Jason Kakabaker of The Cakabakery.

Highlights of the day were too numerous to mention. I’ll let the pictures tell the rest of the story of Sarah+Todd’s day. I will say I was thrilled to be a part of their wedding day. I adore these two and wish them all the happiness in the world.

Erin France was on hand for makeup. You remember her work on a little shoot I worked on last winter.

The Marina Grand, where Sarah, Todd and their wedding party got ready was one of the most stylish hotels I’ve seen in a long while. The lobby is a designers dream.

This pink tree below…a stately Magnolia tree…was in the yard of the little house we in Wedding Town (our nicknamed wedding compound we stayed in that weekend) rented. I knew these two absolutely had to have pictures beneath it’s dreamy little branches.

Three Oaks is not a very big town. I love that Sarah+Todd walked from the ceremony right to the reception and cocktail hour at The Acorn Theater.
